Addis Ababa University (AAU) Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) in Social Sciences College, calls applicants for post-doctoral fellowship on Governance for Sustainable Development (SustGOV).
The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) College of Social Sciences at Addis Ababa University is undertaking a join project on Governance for Sustainable Development (SustGOV) with University of Oslo (Norway) and the University of Malawi.
The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) through its NORHED-II program will fund the project.
About the Fellowship
CSD is seeking to recruit two Post-doctoral Research Fellows with a background in the social sciences, environmental studies, humanities, development studies or related fields. The fellowship is a full-time position for a non-extendable fixed period of two years starting from January 2025. Fellows will receive attractive salary along with research funding.
Fellows are expected to undertake original research addressing Ethiopia’s pressing challenges related to sustainable development and climate change, while benefiting from the mentorship of senior researchers and ample professional development opportunities.
The fellowship position is ideal for recent PhD graduates who are eager to advance their research career in key areas related to sustainable development, and are interested in the following thematic research areas:
- Governance for sustainable development
- Climate change and governance
- Energy security and green transitions on the African continent
- Food systems governance
Key Responsibilities
The Post-doctoral Fellow will be responsible for:
- conducting original, high-quality research on sustainable development publishing research articles in reputed international peer-reviewed journals
- participating in interdisciplinary research teams engaging with local and international stakeholders to disseminate research findings through policy briefs, reports, workshops and public outreach events contributing to teaching and mentoring activities of CSD’s PhD students, and collaborating on other pertinent CSD activities.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must satisfy all of the following criteria to be eligible for consideration for the fellowship:
- A PhD in social science, development studies, environmental studies or a related field, and obtained in no more than 5 years by 01 January 2025
- No more than 40 years of age as of 01 January 2025
- demonstrated ability to conduct independent and high-impact research in one or more of the thematic areas related to sustainable development proven track record of publications in reputable academic journals ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment excellent English writing and oral communication skills motivation and commitment to contributing to the academic and research endeavours of CSD
